There is so much uncertainty in the world today. We never know from one day to the next which direction life will take us. The financial markets are unstable. Fuel prices are ever-changing. Inflation makes it difficult to live within our budgets. Health crisis, natural disasters, political unrest, war and threats of war leave us with a knot in the pit of our stomachs.
Is it any wonder that depression and other mental health issues continue to climb. A recent report by the Mental Health America organization revealed that over 50 million Americans experienced a mental illness in 2019. The same report stated over 2.5 million youth suffer from severe depression. The uncertainty of life affects us all.
One thing that is certain is that God’s promises are assured. The writer of Hebrews says,
13 For example, there was God’s promise to Abraham. Since there was no one greater to swear by, God took an oath in his own name, saying:
14 “I will certainly bless you, and I will multiply your descendants beyond number.”
15 Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.
Abraham knew the uncertainty of waiting for God’s promises to come to completion. Yet, he patiently continued to trust God. The result of his patience was he saw God’s promise fulfilled.
In our own lives, we wait for God’s promises of peace, and healing and wholeness in the lives of those we love. We may be uncertain of when or how those promises will be fulfilled, but we have the assurance that God will keep his promises.
